Where did we leave off?
Oh, that's right...Brownsville. This is where I have to start thinking. We moved a lot around in this time frame and so it's hard for me to remember where we went next.
We moved from Brownsville to Combes, TX I believe. Basically a little itty bitty speck of a town out in the middle of nowhere. We lived in a fabulous house. It was huge! At least to a 10 year old. I had to share a bedroom with my little sister, but the room was so big, it didn't even make much of a difference. We went to Wilson Elementary School. I was in the 5th grade. Sadly, I don't remember my teachers' name. I remember my class was made up mostly of hispanic kids. There were only a couple of us that weren't. I was the minority. :0) It was a tough school. Tough kids. I almost got beat up on the playground one day.
In the lunch room, we weren't allowed to give other kids the food off of our own plates. Even if we didn't want it. I don't know why...that's just what the rules were. People still snuck food to each other though. I saw somebody give another kid in my class their hot dog. The cafeteria monitor caught them, but the kids denied it. She asked me if I saw them. I told the truth. Like a good
little girl. Out on the playground, the older sister of the boy that ended up getting in trouble, started to pick a fight with me. I don't know if I was naive, or just plain stupid, but I stood my ground. I hadn't done anything wrong and I thought the girl was dumb. The other girls in my class kept telling me to shut up because they knew the other girl would beat the crap out of me. For some reason, {again I'm thinking stupidity}, I wasn't scared of her. She ended up just walking away. Nothing happened.

This was also the year my Grandma Robinson died of cancer. We flew back up to Idaho to go to her funeral. I don't remember too much about it. The grandkids sang 'I Am A Child Of God' at the funeral. If I remember correctly, my dad spoke. My grandma was an elementary school teacher. Just like my dad. :0)

My favorite outfit to wear to school was this dress that had flourescent stripes on it. It was one of those that kind of hung over one of your shoulders. I thought I was SO COOL.
Definitely good times in my first double digit year. :0)

Oh fun memory post. I loved the New Kids too, almost went to a concert, but didn't. Good for you for standing your ground, the girl probably saw that you might have kicked her butt first, you're so sassy. Nice job, Miss honesty.
You gotta love the 80 style. I think that my favorite thing to wear was the long shirts with the elastic belt that goes around them.

LOVE flashback Friday. Don't know if my memory would be THAT good though. Funny stories!
Love your flashback! What funny memories we have. You have some great stories though. It really sparks some of my old memories.
That girl probably could have beaten me up. You're lucky to be alive.
