OK, so....don't laugh TOO hard at me on this one.
I used to LOVE 'Deep Thoughts, by Jack Handey'. You know? From Saturday Night Live? I actually gave a speech in my Speech class on them. I thought they were HILARIOUS!
Well, I just came across them again...and I'm wondering what was wrong with me.
"Maybe in order to understand mankind we have to look at that word itself. MANKIND. Basically, it's made up of two separate words"mank" and "ind." What do these words mean? It's a mystery and that's why so is mankind." {sadly, I remember laughing at this one specifically. It's not funny. Are you laughing?}
"As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way."
{maybe it's because I'm older now, but there are days that it REALLY does seem like life is just a bunch of honking and yelling. So, now this one can't be funny either!}
"I wish I had a dollar for every time I spent a dollar, because then, Yahoo!, I'd have all my money back." {This is not funny either. I'm reading it and I'm thinking, "that would be so great! I'd be seriously rich." oh man!}
Sigh. Jack Handey is neither deep nor funny. He's just plain dumb. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone. Please forgive me. Sadly, my Senior year of high school, My friend and I were quoted as saying, "We're at the end, but which end?" We thought we were SOOO funny being all 'deep' like dear Jack. Sigh. I think this is why it's best to just not look back. Some things are better left in High School.

President Hinckley
The Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Gordon B. Hinckley, has passed away. Apparently sick for some time, he is now with his loving wife, Marjorie.
Hinckley has been in the church Presidency for most of my life. His humor and optimism inspired many to "carry on". We offer our deepest sympathies and prayers to his family. He truly was a GREAT man.
He will be missed.

Good Reads!
Just read a post over at Bridget's blog and was excited to find out about this great website! Goodreads.com is a website that you can go to and share your favorite books with your friends. I'm always looking for a new great book to read, though I have been disappointed with the last two I purchased. They had great reviews, but that doesn't mean that they are truly "good". So, to have the opinions of friends is great! If you sign up...please add me to your friends! My email is ashleeburnham@yahoo.com. I want to know what you've read and truly enjoyed! I love a good book! And I'm in need of one right now.
I've added several to my list of books I've already read...check them out and let me know what you think. Am I missing some important ones on my list?

The Flashback continues.....
So, apparently I'm not the only one who loves the 80s because the decade has become so "retro" lately. They're bringing it all back! I'm not complaining in the least bit! I keep seeing commercials, or online ads announcing the return of some of my childhood favorites so I thought I'd share...
First they came out with Transformers The Movie, which was truly amazing. I remember the cartoon from the good old days and to have all the cartoon characters done up this new way was great! I love that my kid gets to enjoy the characters now. Though, all I really remember is Optimus Prime, the big red semi. :0)
One of my favorite shows as a kid was Knight Rider. I was truly jealous as a child because my brother got the Knight Rider Big Wheels for his bday. Lucky! Well, I just saw the commercial tonight that they are doing a tv movie of the 80s series. Look here to check it out. They even have David Hasselhoff doing a guest role in it. Not sure how it will turn out, but I'm looking forward to checking it out. Hopefully they do the series justice!
Check out my previous post about the Smurfs. Loved that cartoon!
GI Joe was another favorite of mine. My brother was Duke, and I was Scarlett. She rocked. Others must have thought so as well, because they are in pre-production for the GI Joe Movie for 2009. Crazy, huh?
My daughter loves her Care Bears. She watches the little cartoon movies, and plays with her Monkey, one of the Care Bear Cousins as well as FunShine Bear. I LOVED the Care Bears. My mom told me that I used to say that I loved the Care Bears because "they care a lot". Get it? Care-A-Lot? Yeah...good times.
On top of that, she is getting to know all about Strawberry Shortcake as well. Good stuff! I haven't seen much of Rainbow Brite, and she was one of my favorites back in the day as well.
Now, I won't say that everything from the 80s was great. The music rocked! The cartoons were better, tv was so much CLEANER and better (remember Growing Pains, the Cosby Show, The Facts of Life, Gimme A Break, Mr. Belvedere, Perfect Strangers, Who's The Boss.....I could go on and on)...but the fashion was definitely interesting. Seriously...acid washed jeans? And you had to wear super BIG shirts, with BIG POOFY hair (Aqua Net hairspray....had to use it to get the big hair right?), and Keds sneakers or Jelly shoes. We were all truly sexy. Remember?
Sigh...anyway...back on track here. It's just amazing to me that all of these things are being re-introduced. Hopefully my kids will enjoy them as much as I did. So far...they have. You can't go wrong with a classic! I'm just waiting for the next commercial announcing the release of the Macgyver movie. Honestly...I'd go see it. I loved Macgyver.

Tag! You're It!
I was tagged by my friend Alicia (check out her blog) and so now I'm it. Here's the game....
Instructions: Go back through your archives and post the links to your five favorite blog posts that you’ve written under the following categories:
Remember though that I have three blogs, so the links might take you to a different blog of mine. :0)
#1 (click on link to get to post)
Family
I love little moments like this. Just a quiet Sunday morning of family fun. I love that my kids enjoy each other so much, and that my hubby is a BIG kid that plays with them. Love it!
#2 Friends
This was such a fun night. The only downer was that we couldn't invite more people over. We start the basement on Monday and so all of you beware! There will be more parties to come...bigger and better! I love having friends over. Chatting and eating, getting to know each other better. And the fact that you all came in costume to humor me...even better!
#3 Who Am I?
I think that explains it. I am a mom, sister, daughter, wife, aunt, cousin, friend...you get the idea. I love to have people around me. They make me a better person. Wow, it's getting deep in here!
#4 What I Love!
I know that I just posted this one...but seriously, it explains it all. The shoes, the food, the scrapbooking, reading, movies, 80s, music, blah, blah, blah.....
#5 Freestyle Blogging! (Blog of choice)
I get tease relentlessly by SOME people about my blogging habits. So, this blog explains it all. It's not necessarily my "favorite" post of all times, there are too many of those to pick just one. Like this one, or how about this one, or even this one. Good times.....
So, thanks Alicia...what a fun trip down memory lane. But as part of the rules, since I am "it" it's my turn to tag others. And apparently I have to pick three of you....so....(drumroll please)
1. Bonnie (newer blogger)
2. Sisters of a Different Order...(Sassy or Honey Bunch, both or either of you!)
3. Bridget (A Day In A Life...)
So, get to it! I had so much fun with this and am looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with for your favorite posts. Happy blogging!

A Blogging Fool
Can I just tell you how much I have enjoyed the blog world? I've been blogging for a long time now, but until just recently haven't "spread my wings". As a SAHM, I tend to feel shut off from the social things I used to enjoy. No girlfriends to gab to like I used to, they're at home trying to entertain their kids too, or for the working moms...at work...slaving away. They don't have time for the random blatherings of a crazy woman (that's me). But it's been nice to keep in touch with friends I left when I moved this last summer through my blog. A couple of them actually blog as well. Makes it so fun! Montay and Alicia...thank you for blogging too! It makes my day when you've posted something new! And keeping in touch with family that lives far away has been so nice too. Jodie, Cam, Mel, Holly...I love seeing what you guys are up to! I would never know what my cute neices and nephews were doing otherwise. Although with you Cam...I'm mostly left not knowing what to say. But at least you let me know what's going on in the world! :0) And Mel, I know you have about 20 million things going on..but you need to get with the posting! Put down the Stephanie Meyer books and get blogging!
But, then all of a sudden...I got comments from people who live thousands of miles away. Some live close, but some live across the country. The first was from a gal who just entered the blog world, but lives right here in the same town. And oddly enough, her neice just happens to be in my son's class at school! Crazy huh? We met a few weeks ago, and she's a doll. By the way, Bonnie, I've been thinking perhaps you should start coming to my girls night. What do you think?
Anyway, it snowballed from there and through reading your blogs and getting your comments, it's like having friends all over the place! And you can never have too many friends. If I'm having a bad day, I can post and suddenly five people are telling me to feel better. I can't tell you what that means. So, even though I don't know most of you...I appreciate ALL of you! It's nice to know there are other moms out there that feel the way I do, and that can be Sassy like me too! It's good stuff! So, keep the comments coming. You make my day! It's almost addicting isn't it? But in a good way. I think. My husband would say otherwise. He thinks I'm crazy. (You'd think he would have figured that one out a long time ago!)
Happy Blogging!

check this one out!
As most of you know, I am not a sewer...but really want to be. My mom is brilliant with a sewing machine and my grandma is an expert. So, I have a lot to live up to.
For Christmas my mom gave all of us a new purse. I love purses almost as much a shoes. Anyway...mine is a beautiful tapestry purse in shade of brown and tan. My favorite color! And then she dropped the bombshell about these babies....They were all made out of placemats. Seriously! I found this picture on a how to website that gives you step by step directions to make your very own. They are so super easy that even I, the beginner, could pull it off. Just a couple of seams and then stitching on your handle. Easy as pie! I want one in every color! Actually, I'm using mine for a scripture tote for church. Perfect sized to fit your books and study guides in, along with scripture markers and a couple of jolly ranchers :0) But seriously, I think I'm going to go and get some placemats today at Target. You guys want to come over and play?

Raindrops on Roses, and Whiskers on Kittens....
Ok...so maybe these are not a few of my favorite things. But THESE are!
Coffee Creamers....I can't get enough of them. I put some in my hot cocoa every morning and it just makes my cocoa so creamy and yummy! My favorite is International Delight French Vanilla. I like their version of vanilla better than the other brands. I don't know what it is about theirs, but they win! And, I buy the fat free and put it in my fat free cocoa...you'd never know it wasn't the "real" stuff. Creamy, chocolatey and fat free!
Colored pens make me happy. Like these Flair felt tip pens by papermate. Or the RoseArt Colorsharp pens. Pick a color for your mood, or match your color to whatever you are writing on. I actually own the entire Zig Writer pen collection. Good stuff! And, these marker/pens make my handwriting look so much nicer! The world is not black and blue only, so neither should your writing!
Yes, I am addicted. And I hate, hate, HATE that they cut my season short! The writers strike is killing me! Anyway...I can't say that I have a favorite character, because they are all so good! They intrigue me. I do love Peter Petrelli love. He is adorable. He can be my hero anyday!
I just love my iTunes. Music means everything to me. Name a song and I can give you a memory that I connect with that song....or the movie it was from. I love playing that game. Whoever came up with iTunes was brilliant. All my hundreds of CDs now in one place, or I guess two as I put them on my iPod to take with me. I honestly love just browsing through the iTunes store and finding songs I haven't heard in ages that I LOVE. Ah.....sweet music!
Scrapbooking is a true passion! I can't wait until my basement is finished so I can have my room back. I've missed it and the spontaneous scrapbooking I was able to get done. It's been FOREVER since I've been able to do that. My pictures are piling up. I have boxes full calling to me. "Ashlee! Did you forget us? Please let me out of the box!" Sigh. My sisters and I will be running off to my mommy's house in March for a three day whirlwind of scrapbooking. No kids, just us scrapping, chatting and eating. I can't wait! You guys ready?
DARK chocolate. I can't help myself. The darker the better. 70%...oh yeah! And, it's better for us than regular chocolate. More antioxidants...I'll take them!
Shoes glorious shoes! I would love these for my collection. Aren't they cute? You can NEVER have enough pairs of shoes.
Reading is something else I'm passionate about, but I've talked about that before. As well as my love of movies.....So I won't bore with those. I figure you already know that about me. But what about you? What are some of your favorite things?

Movie Flashback!
So, much to Jaysen's frustration I have been on a flashback tour of some of my old favorite movies. With the writers strike going on...there's nothing on tv, and so in the evenings I find myself trying to find things to do (besides the things I SHOULD be doing. There are always PLENTY of things to do, but I take the evenings off. Seriously, you should try it!) Anyway, Netflix has been shipping us some great 80s movies lately. I've been filling my queue with some great movie memories. So, I thought I would share some of my favorites with you for your viewing enjoyment.

Happy Smurfday!
Heaven...I'm in Heaven!
I have died and gone to heaven people! I found this ice cream at the store a while back and it's to DIE for! You know the cookie part of the ice cream sandwich? The yummy chocolate part? Yeah....oodles of that in this ice cream. And the ice cream itself tastes a little like the yummy inside of an oreo cookie. Holy cow! So good! The best part though? Only 3 grams of fat per 1/2 cup serving. Seriously. Normal ice cream is 3 times more fattening. So, you get oodles more yumminess, but oodles less fat. Good stuff! There are more flavors than this, so if cookies n cream isn't your thing go here to check out the other magnificent flavors! I think I'm going to need to try them all!

Inkblot Test
This means you have a deep desire to be kind and fair to others. You may even be preoccupied with finding kindness in the world around you, far more than you realize on a conscious level.
It is possible that the underlying reason you seek kindness in the world around you, is that you fear cruelty, the opposite of kindness. That could drive you to unconsciously project kindness wherever possible into your world. Regardless of its origin, your steadfast adherence to being kind to others is felt by people you are close to.
You are probably more susceptible than others to being overwhelmed by emotions — both yours and others'. It is possible that your unusually empathic nature is a result of your natural sensitivity to others' pain, and your desire to help them avoid it. For this reason, things might affect you more than they affect your friends and family. To protect yourself from too much emotional intensity, you might want to keep an eye out so you can recognize it when it starts. That will allow you to slow things down until you feel grounded again.
Overall, your strong orientation towards kindness gives you an optimistic nature, which translates into you seeing the best in the people around you. Because you're not one to be overly judgmental, others may seek out your company when they need a friend to talk to. People close to you likely know that you care deeply about the inner lives of others and can listen to what they have to say without imposing your views on them.
OK that one was far too long of a test...but whew! I made it through. And now I should probably go do something worthwhile like get dressed. But honestly...I don't know how they got all of this out of my answers. I didn't see much of anything in most of the inkblots. Who made up this kind of test anyway? How does this big splotch of ink make you feel? Are you serious? Oh well.

Orange?
You're a bold, confident orange. A warm, powerful color that indicates a strong, welcoming personality, orange is the mark of people who are social and extroverted by nature. Vibrant, with an upbeat attitude, you have a bright, inviting demeanor. Energetic and fun-loving, you're a real friend-magnet. Your easy charm and unassuming manner make you the sort of person people want to meet and get to know better. Well-rounded and fun to be around, you enjoy helping others, so it's no surprise that orange also symbolizes attraction. Orange is an extraordinary color — for an extraordinary person.
So...what color of the rainbow are you?

Enchanted
So, the other day Jaysen comes up to me and says, "Why don't you and Holly go out to a movie on Monday night and then Zach and I can stay here and watch the kids while we watch the BCS game?" Did he think I was going to say no? Holly and I had talked about wanting to see the move 'Enchanted' a couple of weeks ago, so it was perfect!
It's been movie mania around here lately. I usually get to a movie once every few months, but for some reason, I've made it to three this last month. I'm not complaining. So, Holly and I went to see 'Enchanted' without children! It was great! Such a cute, funny movie. We were laughing through most of it. The girl that played the main character, Gisele, was so good. And then the breaking out into song in the middle of central park. Good stuff. We were giggling through most of the movie. I did like the point of the movie (at least the point that I got out of it). That life is not like a fairy tale. Bad stuff happens, but that shouldn't leave you so jaded that you close yourself off to real opportunities for "magical" things to happen in your life.
So, thanks Jaysen and Zach for being such good sports...not that they minded having to watch the game together....though in the middle of the game one of the bulbs in our big screen popped and the picture went wacko....so we had to bring out the smaller one from our bedroom for them to watch the game on. Sigh. Now Jaysen's all pumped about having to get a new TV. He says this is a great excuse to have to go and get a BIG flat screen. Do you think he sabotaged the tv so he could get a new one? This is the third time in two years that the bulbs have gone out on our tv, so it IS truly pointless for us to keep forking out serious dinero to fix it knowing it will break again in about 6-8 months. BUT! Seriously...oh well. Boys and their toys.

Stop the insanity!
I've been down with a stinking migraine for two days and I'm going insane! I finally went in to the chiropractor this morning and found out I had popped my JAW out of place. How do you do that? Seriously....how does one pop their jaw out? I have not been punched in the face, nor have I been to the dentist (though I need to get in there too!)....so what on earth could I have done to pop it out of place?
I swear, only I could manage to pull this off. Thankfully, with pain killers and the adjustment at Dr. Chad's I'm starting to be able to fully open my eyes. Though actually seeing what has happened to my house the past two days while I've been huddled up in my room is scary. Sigh. It never ends does it?

Must Listen!
I really wish that I could have found a clip of the song for you, but unfortunately I couldn't. I spent several hours in the car today, which meant I had several hours of listening enjoyment on my new iPod. I was able to listen to songs that I've had in my collection for several years, and it helped me to remember some really great songs I've got. This is one of them. I believe this CD was released in 2005. She is not a "well known" artist, but has a great voice, and some really great songs with really great lyrics. This is one of my favorites....I hope you are able to listen to the melody at some point.
