17 Again

Yes, I went to see this movie tonight. Yes, it was kind of a tweenie movie. BUT! I will say, Jaysen and I did get some laughs out of dear old Uncle Ned. More importantly, it was a warm and fuzzy movie. I am seeing so many kids in high school, or just getting out of high school that are having such a hard time. It breaks my heart for them. This movie was different from some of the other tweenie kind because it pushed for what was good and right.

Mike O'Donnell is the main character. He is the father of two teenagers, but ends up getting turned back into a teenager. The only person that knows about the transformation is Uncle Ned. The quote is from teenager father who is talking to his teenage daughter because her boyfriend dumped her. Apparently the scum told her that if she wouldn't show him how much she loved him then he would break up with her. So, she was heartbroken even though she was so great for standing up for herself. Then teenage daddy comes along to make her feel better

Mike O' Donnell: When you're young everything feels like the end of the world. But it's not it's just the beginning, you might have to meet a few more jerks. but one day you're gonna meet a boy who treats you the way you deserve to be treated. Like the sun rises and sets with you.

Teenage dad helped give his son the courage to try out for the basketball team. Helped him to stand up to the school bully.

Anyway....blah blah blah I know....but I thought it was a cute show. Was it wicked awesome and everyone should run out and watch it? Maybe....maybe not. I will tell you that Zac Efron has a killer 6 pack. WOW.....Not that I was looking or anything. {Love you Jaysen!}

And....action!

For some reason, Jaysen and I have been in serious movie-mode lately. We have watched oodles of them. Some were good...some were not worth my time. So, I thought I would share my thoughts to keep you from making the same mistakes I did. :0)

I had never even heard of this one, but we saw it in the video store and thought it would be nice to watch something different. It wasn't BAD, but it was a bit jumpy and at times hard to follow. And...the ending was WAY not what I expected.
Yes, we rented the Love Guru. My hubby likes comedies such as this. And, as always...it was totally retarded. Not to say that I didn't laugh. Because I did. It was just dumb. You know what I mean?
I got this one to watch while my neice was visiting. It was a special request from her. :0) I have to say that I thought it was super cute. A very good tween movie with a good mystery in it...all Nancy Drew style. Good stuff!
This one was kind of predictable and cheesy. Sorry if I have offended anyone by that. :0) But seriously...he jumps on a horse and rides across the island to stop the wedding? Really?

When I saw the previews for this one my first thought was....no way. EVER. It looked dumb. But the hubby likes stuff like this, so in the Netflix queue it went. I was pleasantly surprised! It wasn't at all what I thought it would be, and the trailer did not portray the true theme for the movie at all.
Um...this one is up there with my favorite movies of all time. I love music {as most of you know} and I truly enjoyed how they brought out the "music of life" in this. The kid does such a great job. When it was done {after I wiped away a few tears} I looked at Jaysen and asked him what he thought. I was sure he wouldn't like it becuase he has hated every other musical I have made him watch with me. But, he surprised me by saying he REALLY liked it. He even told me to go and buy the soundtrack {I had already found the songs on iTunes...} :0)
This one was another awesome one. I love Steve Carell. Am I the only one that thinks he is just a teensy bit handsome? I am? Oh well.
I am ashamed to admit that I did watch this...and thought it was the most retarded movie I have seen in a very long time. Don't even bother. {Jaysen laughed}
Iron Man...not what I expected, but it was good. I knew nothing about Iron Man before watching this movie, and so I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into, but it was decent. Jaysen loves it.

This one was for Mackenzee for her birthday. For those of you who are not aware of the existence of Miss Abby Cadabby..you are missing out. She is the newest Muppet Character on Sesame Street and is the cutest thing. She is a fairy in training {as her parents are both fairies} and she is three years old. She has a hard time with magic and tends to turn things into pumpkins. :0) This movie is a spoof of Alice in Wonderland, done up Sesame Street style {with all your favorite characters}. Mackenzee loves it. :0)

I hope these reviews will help to save at least a few of you from making the mistakes that I made. Some movies are just not WORTH IT. :0)

This movie...the one pictured above....

is FANTASTIC! :0)

I had been planning on seeing it for Girls Night next week for a while, but my MIL went to see it a couple of weeks ago and told me that I HAD to take my mom to go and see it. So, I called my mom, made a date, and honestly....it was better than I had expected. It was funny, had a great story line, the music was fun, and I almost teared up a few times. It was a really sweet story that had some really fun moments. I can only imagine how much fun the actors had as they did the scenes.

There was only one man in the theatre. I assume he went with his wife. :0) Otherwise, the theatre was full of ladies of ALL ages. And all of them laughed along with me and my mom. It was such a fun mom and me date. I'm so glad my MIL suggested it. Now, I can't wait to share it with all my girlfriends next week. It's one you wouldn't mind seeing a second time.

I'm off to download the songs off of iTunes!

Indiana Jones?

SO, the hubby and I made it to the theater this weekend to watch the latest story in the Indiana Jones saga. Indiana Jones is now OLD. He is portrayed that way in the movie too. So, don't think they were going to try to fool you into thinking he was young still. :0) Though the movie was fairly good, I was left disappointed. It wasn't artifacty like the other ones. I don't want to ruin the whole thing for you, but the "magical" element that most Indiana Jones movies have behind the artifact was, well....dumb. It wasn't like the others.

It didn't help that the hubby and I watched a special on the SciFi channel last week about Crystal Skulls. So, there wasn't ever a real surprise for us. We knew what was coming. So, I think that might have ruined it for us. Oh well.

It was good though! Don't NOT go and see it because of my opinion. Most people have really liked it. Like I said, I think we ruined it for ourselves.

Next on my list of movies to watch? The next Will Smith movie. He's a superhero....a drunk superhero. It looks interesting. :0)

On With The Show

I just barely watched this much talked about movie this last weekend. I heard good things, and then I heard that it was naughty. So, what does a person do? I can't very well make an educated decision about it if I haven't seen it right? :0) I loved it. I was shocked, surprised, saddened, humored.....it was great. Warm and fuzzy and a great story. It was reality. And sometimes reality sucks. Ellen Page did a fabulous job portraying the main character.

This is the movie we will be seeing this weekend. I can't wait. Who doesn't love a little Indiana Jones? I grew up watching the first three. We have been impatiently waiting for this one to come out. I'll let you know how it goes.

Dating Myself

On Friday night I went and saw Baby Mama at the theater. By myself. Let me address the first sentence...and then I'll address the second {incomplete} sentence. {Sorry about that incomplete bit, my English teacher would kill me for writing a two word, incomplete sentence like that.}

Jaysen rushed home Friday morning to help me rearrange the stuff in the basement. We were supposed to have carpet installed {it's getting installed today instead} and they were going to be here earlier than we had anticipated. We had to shove as much stuff into the bathroom down there as possible so that the area to be carpeted would be clear and ready for them when they got here. As we sat upstairs afterwards chatting before he went back to work he tells me that it's such a gorgeous day, and he's pretty much caught up for the week, so he might just golf that afternoon. Sigh.

Did I mention that I was a golfer's widow during the summer? Yep. That's me. So, me being the whiney wife that I am, I asked when it was my turn to take the afternoon off to go and play. He golfs every Thursday night, and has already gone several afternoons and evenings and Saturdays to "his" golf course. I'm not even going to tell you how much we have spent on his membership to the Jerome Country Club AND the space rental for his golf cart. Oh wait...you didn't know? Yes, we acquired a golf cart this last year in anticipation for all the times he'd be taking out Mackenzee this year. It was necessary right? :0)

Anyway...back to the story...I'm a whiney wife...remember? So he says, "Go and do something then." Like what? We spent all of our money on this basement project {and his golfing habit} and so I don't feel comfortable just taking an afternoon to go shopping {though that's what I'd really love to do!} So, he said to go to the movies. Hmmm....I could do that. I don't think he realized I was going to do it THAT NIGHT though. So, he was surprised when he got home and I told him he was on his own at bedtime. :0)

And...my movie of choice? Baby Mama! The commercials looked hilarious.....{to me anyway!} I did call a couple of my friends to see if they wanted to go. But they were both busy. {What? Other people have stuff going on...they have lives? Not fair!} I could have called a couple of other friends...but honestly...I was worried about the content of the movie. I know...that sounds horrible. The movie is rated PG13, but nowadays, that doesn't always mean "appropriate". Now, I'm a grown up. So, I'm allowed to go to even the worst of movies if I so choose {I don't!}, and then I can choose to walk out if they are too yucky. But PG13 isn't horrible people! Can you tell I'm trying to explain away my worries that the actors may have said some questionable things in a movie about a woman hiring a surrogate to have her baby? Yeah....Back to asking other friends to go. Remember when I said it looked funny to me? I wasn't so sure it would look funny to them. Make sense?

ANYWAY......................so I went by myself. Have you ever done that before? I have. Not too bad. Seriously...give it a go sometime. And the movie? It was good! I wouldn't say it was the best movie I've ever seen..but it was good. NOT naughty. And though it was funny...it was warm and fuzzy too, and partly romantical as well. Kind of like a funny chick flick about friendship and life. No, I won't be buying it when it comes out. But it was good. I could have invited those other friends to it. Sigh. Oh well. I was a pretty good date for myself. :0)

Dumb movies anyway!

So, do you remember this movie? It's from 1998. It came out about the same time as Disney's 'A Bug's Life'. This movie was made by Dreamworks Studio. We've owned the movie for awhile. I remember watching it back when it came out {pre kids}. So, I'm sure I bought it a few years back when it was on sale or something. We are serious movie watchers in this house. :0)

We went to my sister's house last weekend. It's a couple hour drive, so I told the kids to pick a movie to take in the car. They chose this one. Ok, great! We haven't seen this one in a while, that'll be nice to watch it {or for me, listen to it}. Can I tell you how shocked I was? This is a cartoon. When you think of cartoon, you automatically assume it's a kid movie. Sigh. They said the word d*mn 3 different times, hell and handfull of times, and tight @ss at least once. IN A CARTOON! It makes me so mad when they do that. How sad is it that we have to preview cartoons for our kids now. What should be a nice little flick ends up teaching my kids new words to add to their vocabulary. Sigh. Unfortunately, I had seen this one before, but forgot {or probably didn't notice back in pre kid days} about the language.

My question is: What's next? What else are they going to do to desensitize our kids? I feel like we have to been even more careful about stuff nowadays to make sure that our kids understand what is right and what is wrong. I know I'm going off on a little tangent here, but my two year old doesn't need to know those words. My son already does because he's in school, but it doesn't need to be in the things we bring into the house.

Am I the only mommy that gets frustrated by this crap? What do you guys think?

Martian Child

I watched this movie this last weekend. If you haven't watched it yourself, you need to. It was such a good, warm, fuzzy movie. I love John Cusack and the little boy in this movie did such a good job too. If you are a movie buyer...I'd feel safe telling you to just go out and buy it even if you haven't seen it. It's that good. Now get on with it!

Enchanted

So, the other day Jaysen comes up to me and says, "Why don't you and Holly go out to a movie on Monday night and then Zach and I can stay here and watch the kids while we watch the BCS game?" Did he think I was going to say no? Holly and I had talked about wanting to see the move 'Enchanted' a couple of weeks ago, so it was perfect!
It's been movie mania around here lately. I usually get to a movie once every few months, but for some reason, I've made it to three this last month. I'm not complaining. So, Holly and I went to see 'Enchanted' without children! It was great! Such a cute, funny movie. We were laughing through most of it. The girl that played the main character, Gisele, was so good. And then the breaking out into song in the middle of central park. Good stuff. We were giggling through most of the movie. I did like the point of the movie (at least the point that I got out of it). That life is not like a fairy tale. Bad stuff happens, but that shouldn't leave you so jaded that you close yourself off to real opportunities for "magical" things to happen in your life.

So, thanks Jaysen and Zach for being such good sports...not that they minded having to watch the game together....though in the middle of the game one of the bulbs in our big screen popped and the picture went wacko....so we had to bring out the smaller one from our bedroom for them to watch the game on. Sigh. Now Jaysen's all pumped about having to get a new TV. He says this is a great excuse to have to go and get a BIG flat screen. Do you think he sabotaged the tv so he could get a new one? This is the third time in two years that the bulbs have gone out on our tv, so it IS truly pointless for us to keep forking out serious dinero to fix it knowing it will break again in about 6-8 months. BUT! Seriously...oh well. Boys and their toys.

Alvin and the Chipmunks

I took Landon to see this movie tonight. He loved it. Plenty of little boy humor in it. It was a cute movie, though I don't think I will buy it for our collection. Landon said his favorite part was when Theodore was eating lots of nuts and said, "This is the best day of my life!" I honestly figured it was going to be the part where Alvin farted in Dave's face. I was wrong. :0) My favorite part was when Theodore went into Dave's room and woke him up to tell him that he had a bad dream and wanted to know if he could sleep with him. Dave tells him that it's fine as long as he stays on his side of the bed. So, he climbs in and two seconds later he is curled up into a little ball in the crook of Dave's neck. It was cute.

So, yeah...movie wasn't horrible, it was just about 20 minutes too long. I was ready for it to be over by that time. But, again...Landon loved it. And there was no potty humor or bad words in it, which totally impressed me. Just a kids movie. So, they hit their mark. Totally kid approved. ;0)

I Am Legend

Jaysen and I went with my dad to see this movie tonight. For those of you who aren't on the up and up with this movie it's about a scientist who is immune to the effects of a manmade drug. Those not immune have either died or turned into the "Dark Seekers". Similar to vampires, but they are NOT vampires. Anyway...he's attempting to find a cure so that he can bring humanity back.
I went to see this movie out of pure curiosity. I knew it was going to be scary, but my curiosity must have gotten the best of me. I HATE scary movies. I have an overactive imagination. This was not a blood and guts movie, but VERY suspenseful. Honestly, it was a really good movie. Very fast paced, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. There were parts that actually made me want to cry....and then parts that gave you a little chuckle. But mostly....you were just insanely tense. Waiting for something to jump out on the screen. The majority of the movie was acted by only Will Smith and his dog, Sam. Will did an excellent job keeping the flow of the movie going, and the banter with his dog was great.
So, if you can handle a suspenseful, slightly scary movie...I would suggest this one. No, it's not one that will be purchased and put into the Burnham collection. BUT, I am glad that I went to see it. Curiousity taken care of. Though I do want to get the book and read it. I'm sure there were things left out or things that they were not able to portray in the movie that were important. I'll let you know when I'm done! ;0)
