Girls Just Want to Have Fun

As many of my devoted readers know....{mostly because you come to Girls Night}, the 2nd Thursday of every month is Girls Night. A night away from hubbies and kids to play and chat and nibble on yummy treats. I formed this group after my daughter was born. She had really bad reflux and cried nonstop. The hubby kept telling me to get out of the house for a breather, but I didn't have anywhere to go. {shopping costs money...dangit!} Thus began my monthly retreats into sanity-land. It began in February of 2006 and though the people have come and gone....it has been one of the best ways I have had to form amazing friendships.

Here's the thing though....after 2 1/2 years {almost} of doing this, my creativity is beginning to get tapped out. Trying to figure out something to do every month for a group of ladies with different types of personalities that will be wicked awesome fun is getting harder and harder. I have some great ideas, but know that many would not be too keen on participating. :0) I can get a little crazy, but I know not everyone is comfortable with looking silly in public. {Though I was pleasantly surprised at their willingness to let loose last month during the photo scavenger hunt} So, I am turn to you, my interpeeps. Any great ideas? I still have a few left up my sleeve, and I gave my ladies an ultimatum several months back and forced them to cough up a few ideas of their own. :0) But those too, will run out in time.

What have we done so far you ask? Let me share...

Bunco, baby shower, pedicure night, photo scavenger hunt, unbirthday party, game night, going to the movies, death by chocolate, Christmas craft exchange, scrapbooking, craft night, going out to dinner, painting pottery, and going out for dessert. {notice food is involved most of the time}

We try not to spend too much money so that it doesn't get out of hand, though sometimes it is unavoidable. I am dying to have an 80s night at the roller skating rink....but several people have already nixed that idea. {wouldn't it be fun to dress up in 80s clothes, which is now highly available in most stores...} I've thought about doing a bit of Crazy bowling, which involves making each frame a challenge. For example, bowling in slow motion, backwards, sitting down, eyes closed...you get the idea. But again...pretty sure it's not gonna happen.

So, my readers...fill me in with all of your fabulous ideas! Give a girl a hand. And then go start a group of your own! We have so much fun and enjoy our monthly break from the daily humdrum. But my girls night girls....no more hair dying! It has been officially taken off the table as possible options. Kapish?

I'll be waiting for your ideas.......

Still waiting!

I just love getting together to chat. I know for some it gets boring, but I love it. I think bowling and rollerskating sound fun. How about nazkart or the corn maze? Of course, I am always up for a good chick flick.

I'm going to think about this one, but off the top of my head...Fear Factor-trying new things to do and eat, etc.. A service project at Christmas-check with the community to see if there is a sub for santa project you can help with...wrapping gifts or delivering, shopping. Book exchange or review night-I'm always looking for new books to read. I'll keep thinking.

What about a homemade Pizza party. Each person makes a different pizza-get as creative as you want.

I wish I could have girls night...but I don't have enough girl friends, mine ALWAYS move away :(

I think you should make some of them tradition. Like the Christmas gift exchange. And you should definitely do the death by chocolate one once a year. I think the bowling one sounds like good fun. You could do some sort of progressive dinner, maybe.(notice I stayed with the food theme!) Or you could take a road trip to IF? (I have to try!)

i was going to suggest bowling until i saw it mentioned towards the bottom. :) what about karaoke? or a different type of scavenger hunt where you have to collect things or do things. i did this for my cousin's bachelorette party, but it was slightly more risque: write your # on the bathroom wall, have someone carry you across the room, order a drink for a stranger, etc.

what about a luau? or a gardening type of thing? good luck with ideas! :)

Ashlee-hey Robyn Meyers here. I stumbled upon your blog through Crystals. Glad to hear you are still doing girls nights, those were a lot of fun! Though I’d give you a few ideas to keep it fresh (sorry if you’ve already thought them up)!
Hiking (maybe Ross falls or Pillar Falls, weather permitting of course), Dance lessons (salsa, ballroom or line-there’s bound to be a family friend of someone or a ward member who would teach or even a good DVD), same with a self defense (karate) class, I think the bowling sounds like a blast (keep mentioning it, I’m sure the gals ‘ill give in), a PJ party with an old flick and popcorn, fancy cuisine night (you could make sushi, or a really fun eclectic dish and have everyone bring at least one ingredient, so everyone contributes, and their own dishes to take some home), A book club/review, Does anyone have horses? Horse riding would be fun, A clothing/shoe swap (yours or kids), see a play (is Jump Company still doing regular plays? Or CSI fine arts activity), same for a concert. Christmas is just around the corner if your feeling like doing service you could work a soup kitchen, give blood or plasma even pool some money to donate a food basket or large gift for a family in need (shopping for the items together would be the fun part)! Hope this helps…Best of luck!
